Steve and his team did an awesome job helping us remodel our home. Before we purchased the house, Steve came to take a look and made some recommendations based on what we were looking to accomplish. He also spotted some issues with a wall in the garage.
Based on his input, we were able to put together an offer and purchase the house. Once we closed, the Stephano Homes team started work. Within 3 months, we had accomplished more than we had hoped to in 6 months. The designs Steve came up with made the process less overwhelming. He worked with the existing house, our personal tastes and his experienced eye.
The finished product was well worth the investment. We felt Steve was reasonable with the estimates, and explained our options clearly. His crew was courteous and knowledgeable. It really takes the right mix of people to make a project go as well as this did. Steve definitely had the right team and exceeded our expectations.
We contacted Steve Macey and Jonny Hanses about a 500 sq ft addition and complete remodel after having seen similar work they completed in the area. We had a rough idea as to what we wanted. Steve and Jonny came back within two weeks with drafts in line with the vision we shared. They offered options, made adjustments based on budget and preferences and thoroughly explained what the process would look like. They had final plans to us within weeks and permits soon after.
Jonny called, emailed and met us at the project site regularly and kept us well informed. He and Steve are current around design trends to provide recommendations – styles, colors, approaches, sources, etc. We didn’t engage an Architect or Designer for a single stage.
The crew is extremely professional. They’re well informed and aligned around timelines, next steps and responsibilities, which kept us on schedule and without surprises. Be it Foreman, Plumber, Electrician, Painters, etc., they took pride in their work and left an immaculate job site at the end of the day. Despite the commotion a large project can create, our neighbors appreciated Stephano Homes’ courtesy and professionalism.
Months later we walked back into a new home that was exactly what we hoped for. The design is well thought out and the craftsmanship top notch. As we’ve settled in, the quality of work hasn’t lost it’s luster.
As more remodels similar to ours pop up in the neighborhood, we notice the things I mention. We didn’t think of many of them going into the project, but recognized and appreciated them throughout. Seeing projects that lack these qualities reminds us of how fortunate we were to have made the right decision.
Would absolutely recommend Stephano Homes for projects big or small. We would make the same decision again in a heartbeat.

Steve Macey and crew at Stephano Homes did a fabulous job on our Master Bedroom suite remodel. They are real craftsmen and do high quality work at a competitive cost. We didn’t have to use an architect, as Steve did a beautiful design for our remodeled bedroom, walk-in closet and large bathroom. Steve, who has excellent taste, helped us choose the tiles, the fixtures, the granite and the style and color for our built-ins. We love the entry to the Master bedroom suite with the built-in bookshelves and cabinets that house our home entertainment electronics.
What I really appreciated is the creative problem-solving, and the willingness to work with us to get things exactly how we wanted the remodel. This is the second remodel project that we’ve done with Stephano Homes and Classic Kitchens (same owner). Each project exceeded our expectations. Steve runs a tight ship. Projects start on time, end on time and keep to budget. We loved Tim, our foreman who did all the carpentry, the plumbing and the excellent finish work. The crew cleans up at the end of each day and are true professionals. Everyone is polite and client-service oriented. Steve is a trustworthy and likeable guy who truly listens to his clients. I recommend Stephano Homes without reservation.
We were quickly running out of space with our growing family and we needed to find someone we knew could help us figure out a way to add to our already charming home. After sitting down with Steve Macey and talking about our needs and wants, we quickly began on our beautiful master suite addition. All of the employees at Stephano Homes were wonderful when working on our house. Our finished addition is so beautiful, we can’t wait until the next time we would like to add or remodel our home. We know that when that time comes we will be calling Steve at Stephano Homes.
I engaged Steve Macey and Jonathan Hanses for a bath addition. They were absolutely wonderful to work with. They started when they said they would (in March) and ended on time. Tim, the foreman, was onsite everyday and worked hard every day, making sure everything was done perfectly. Mark did the framing and was also tremendous. They all have years of experience and take pride in their work.
Steve was very helpful in making recommendations that turned out to be great ideas. They also worked extremely effectively with the city, and of course not a single issue/comment from the plethora of inspectors in Palo Alto. Their work is top notch.
The one thing to know is they work on time and materials (not fixed price contract). So some risk the price could go up if there is an unforeseen problem. But they are reasonable people who work to solve whatever issues arise, constructively and in a way that relieves stress more than I experience with other contractors. Very happy with the end result. I couldn’t have asked for a better crew and team.
